Shirley B. McElhattan, MD

Dr. Shirley McElhattan graduated from Jefferson Medical College, where she was elected into the AOA National Medical Honor Society.  She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she served as Chief Medical Resident.  She then went on to work as a primary care internal medicine physician with UPMC.   While there, she was also a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and precepted an ambulatory care continuity clinic for Internal Medicine residents.  Prior to pursuing her medical degree, she received her BS in pre-medicine from the Pennsylvania State University, where she was honored with membership in Phi Beta Kappa.  

Dr. McElhattan also has served on many non-profit boards and is currently the chairperson of the Grow Livingstones organization that provides hot meals and other services to underserved communities in Pittsburgh’s south hills.  She is active on the Mission team at her church and is also a board member of the McElhattan Foundation with particular interest in their focus areas of end of life care and quality out of school time educational opportunities for less advantaged communities.  She lives in Pittsburgh with her husband, Justin, and has three secondary and college aged children.
